After a 4 year hiatus, VETO are back with their new album ’16 Colors’
16 Colors’ has been a somewhat general symbol for the record. The title refers to the sixteen colors that are named in the HTML-specification and thereby the palette that is a basic distri- butor of color in our online behaviour. The sixteen colors recur in the early computers and ope- rating systems. They represent a big step forward compared to the two colored systems in the early age of computers, while it is still a limited palette. To me, the limitations of the colors we see (preselected on our behalf or self chosen) are defining for our understanding of the world, and it is this issue I have wished to examine on this album. – Troels Abrahamsen
The recordings of the new album began after a year of abstinence from music in 2013. That year, the band took a minor break due to a very busy touring schedule around the world and a success that had been accelerating since their opening performance at Roskilde Festival’s main Orange Stage in 2011. The band’s drive had to be retrieved and the need for creativity demanded time and space in order to flourish again. The band returned to recording in 2014 af- ter parting with their record label and other business partners, which provided them with a calm environment of musical experimentation and a more free approach to the creative process. The recordings of ’16 Colors’ then continued over a two-year period in cooperation with producer Mikkel Bolding.
